Latin jazz band “The Brew” has released its latest CD, entitled “Rumba Caliente.” This eagerly awaited collection has 10 new songs.
Lead guitarist Michael Rodriguez marries fiery Latin-flavored guitar with flamenco, jazz and a touch of rock to produce yet another testament to the Brew’s incredibly electrifying style of Latin-Jazz.
The Brew is based in Austin, Texas and formed around three brothers, Michael, Mark and Joe Rodriguez, who have played together for more than 30 years.
Best known in the California area for their remake of Hall & Oates “Sara Smile,” they have been played extensively on radio stations WAVE in Los Angeles, CA, various radio stations in Sonoma County, CA, the WAVE in Houston, and OASIS in Dallas.
An accomplished band with an incredible grass roots following, The Brew has opened for such diverse notables as the Rippingtons, George Howard, Everette Harp, Jeff Lorber, Chuchito Valdez, Hiroshima, Acoustic Alchemy, Larry Corryel, and Kirk Whalum. Michael’s talents are so diverse that he and the band have even opened for Willie Nelson, the Neville Brothers as well as other popular artists in various musical genres.
Although the acts they have opened for read like a who’s who list in the music industry, what is even more interesting are the people who have opted to jump up on the stage for an impromptu jam with lead guitarist, Michael Rodriguez and his band. Members of the famed Gipsy Kings have twice sat in onstage, as has Earl Klugh, members of Spyro Gyra, Ardeshir Farah of Strunz & Farah, Steve Winwood, Boz Scaggs, Lionel Richie Band, Miami Sound Machine Band, Stanley Jordan, smooth jazz guitarist Blake Aaron, and Kirk Whalum. With Austin, Texas being known as “The Live Music Capitol of the World” you never know when any given musician or actor might jump on stage to jam with the band. Most of these events occurred at the much-loved but now defunct jazz venue “Baxter’s Night Club” on Austin’s sixth street.
The Brew, with Kirk Whalum, were hired by David Robinson to play at his Neighborhood Foundation Charity event where they performed for the Spurs and other NBA Stars as well as other local celebrities.
The Brew has Headlined many of Austin’s music events and well-known venues such as Austin’s Blues on the Green, Auditorium Shores, and at Pease Park.
Last June actor Matthew McConaughey jumped up on stage at Speakeasy, a favorite local club where the Brew was headlining, and joined in on the congas playing with percussionist Joe Rodriguez.
Beloved by other musicians and fans alike, The Brew has managed to maintain a solid base of loyal fans for many years. Their fans have remained loyal to the band through changes in musical direction and different lineups, which is quite an accomplishment in a fickle industry.
