Austin-based performing and recording artist Omar Lopez is anything but a traditional violinist - his signature style and improvizational pizazz is a fusion of his classical training with jazz, rock, Latin, Middle Eastern, and Celtic influences that keeps his audiences and fellow musicians on their toes. He was the featured solo violinist for the International Philharmonic Orchestra on their three-year "Dreamsound" world tour, performing for audiences across the globe in venues such as New York's Radio City Music Hall, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Sydney Opera House, and the Auditorio Nacionale in Mexico City. Omar returned to Austin in 2001, eventually collaborating with groups such as established Latin-jazz sensation The Brew, world-fusion band Pieces of East, and electronic-pop band Matson Belle, and showcasing his talents at globally-acclaimed music venues and jazz festivals. He was soon recognized as one of Austin's premier young musicians, earning nominations for Best Strings (violin) in the Austin Chronicle Music Poll both in 2003 and 2004.
